    About Jolene McVean
    M.Ed., LPC, NCC

I regularly get feedback that I am very calming and at the same time energetic. I’m practical, sometimes philosophical, use humor where appropriate, make sure you feel heard and validated, and empower you to make choices to run your life but not run it for you. I continue to work successfully with men and women though my heart goes out to some of the complications unique to women’s lives as we seek to navigate career and/or family challenges. I embrace people of all ethnicities. My faith is important to me and my worldview is that of a spiritual Christian. I welcome people of all faiths or none, though I am particularly suited for those who would like to integrate Biblical principles into therapy or who need a safe place to process their spiritual wounds.

    My Philosophy and Approach

Extremes tend to get us into trouble – extreme beliefs, extreme behaviors, extreme expressions of emotion, extreme involvement with others or isolation from others, etc. I’m here to help you find your own personal balance so that you can feel more calm inside and make choices that take you in the direction you want to go. Finding this balance involves a bio-psycho-social-spiritual approach in which we take a look at how to address your unique needs in your brain/body, thoughts/emotions, relationships of all kinds, and your existential practices.

    My Experience

My approach comes from a blend of both academic and work experience. I first gathered a Biblical foundation for life, earning an Associates in Practical Theology from CFNI. I then learned to blend that with psychological principles by earning a BAS in Psychology from DBU and began the journey to become an LPC by earning an M.Ed. in Counseling from UNT. I gained valuable knowledge and life experience throughout my educational journey and beyond through employment at a local church, with a therapist in private practice, at a psychiatric hospital, at a brain injury rehab, and as a contract therapist in the private practice or non-profit of others. I’ve been in the field in some capacity since 2004, fully licensed as a Texas LPC since 2008, and have had the privilege of realizing my dream to own my own private practice since 2014.
